The Dunkettle Interchange Upgrade works included modifications to the existing Silversprings junction on the N8 Lower Glanmire Road.  Works at Silversprings were carried out as an advance works item with a view to ensuring improved traffic flow through the Silversprings junction and further ensuring that there would be no traffic congestion interface between the Silversprings junction and the Dunkettle Interchange Upgrade works.

The works at Silversprings were completed in Quarter 1 of 2019 and the scope of works included:

The works completed at Silversprings have provided the following benefits:

  • Improved road surface quality.
  • Improved traffic flow through the Silversprings junction.
  • Improved facilities for pedestrians and cyclists at the junction.

The Cork City Cycle Strategy, currently under development by Cork City Council, will deliver further improvements in cycling infrastructure in particular at the Silversprings junction.
